I self-rec a bunch of podfics… I think they’re awesome, so what are you going to do?? J Also, note that I do have pairing and character preferences, so you are unlikely to see a lot of Ancestor fic or Jake and Jane fic on this list. There is a surprising amount (as in I am surprised at the amount) of humanstuck fic on this list. I’ve currently arranged it by Act. Such that you probably should finish that act prior to reading these fics. This is for people who have not yet finished up to the current pages of Homestuck and yet would like to get into fandom. Tips

-Quit worrying already and touch his hot butt.
Recommendation: This is one of the best Homestuck fics ever. I am not a spatially aware person, I don’t have a visual memory, descriptions of rooms or physical spaces are generally lost on me because I can’t picture them accurately. This fic manages to hit me in the gut with movement. Even if I can’t picture it, which I’m sure if that’s your thing you could do perfectly, I can Feel it. The movement in this fic is so visceral that it seems real. I want to go out and try these things (except that no). Also the snark. The EPIC amounts of snark between Karkat and Dave. And the background world that is amazingly detailed and the reader is just plunked down right in the middle and expected to just know what things are. I love long drawn out, explained worldbuilding. But this kind is amazing too where you are just forced to experience the world and learn from what you see. So highly recommended it isn’t even funny. (unfinished though. There have been parts of chapter 3 posted recently on the author’s tumblr)

Terezi and Gamzee are forced to work together to pass their respective career training (ugh can’t spell them) and in doing so catch the eye of the grand Highblood.

Civil liberties attorneys successfully lobbied for the Alternians' release from quarantine and in the last two years, the Alternians have become the latest addition to the population of Los Angeles."
The representitives of a race of newcomers fight to give their people a home on Earth- but even without the deadly killer stalking the streets of LA, just surviving is hard enough for some. Can humans and aliens work together to build a better future? Or is it all doomed to end in bloodshed?
One thing is for sure - for sixteen teenagers, this is going to be a dangerous week.
Recommendation: This is an epic. A crossover with Alien Nation, but no knowledge of that is needed. This is an amazing bunch of worldbuilding along with exploration of class, family, and so much other stuff. Also, enough mystery for even Jane to be satisfied. Epic is the watch word with this one. (There’s also a sequel in the works :D)

Recommendation: This is one of my favourite Homestuck fics. For real, I love it so much. It is post-Sburb and about Gamzee making his way in the world. Gamzee becoming sober, learning to be a subjugglator, balancing all that and Karkat and Gamzee. This fic has the best (maybe only believable) portrayl of an Ashen romance as romance that I have ever read. It is amazing. Sadly it is not finished because if it was I would be on podficcing this like nobody’s business. I have podficced its super cute prequel which shows how Gamzee and Tavros got together. Basically this is the best and this Gamzee is the best and everything is perfect. So much love.

Recommendation: I have two favourite Pale fics that I hold all other fics about pale romance (and about Karkat<>Gamzee in general) up to. This is one of them. This fic manages to make it clear that what Karkat and Gamzee have is definitely a romantic relationship and yet it is just as definitely not in any way sexual. The tenderness in this fic is almost unbearable. It is simply the best. I podficced it and will love that podfic forever.

Nextian creates a troll language and has the human kids learning it. This is the most amazing thing. I’m fairly certain I can point to this fic as the beginning of the spiral that my life has taken (up or down I don’t know yet). I jumped on this fic to make a podfic of it. I practiced for three days and in front of a mirror before I could finally make and implosive. It is amazing (disclaimer, if you are not into linguistics this will likely hold less appeal… however, it is still a really good series)

Recommendation: This is a series I don’t actually read but have to rec anyway. It is the best written fic I have come across in a long time. The worldbuilding and just the writing of this series makes me want to read it again. However, I cannot (solely because I actually have an OTP in this fandom that I can’t get around (Karkat<>Gamzee) and for short fics I can suspend (barely) my OTPness but for something this long, well written and plotty I just can’t). So, this goes with my full and whole hearted recommendation but know I will not read it alongside you because of my own personal pairing hangups -_-

Recommendation: Dave and Karkat get into a flirt off (that ups to a tease off) while watching rom-coms with John. Super hot

Recommendation: This was one of the first long fics I read when I got into Homestuck. It is a post-Sburb/we won/hybrid species fic. The relationships are cute. This was the fic that single handedly converted me to Dave<>Tavros.

Recommendation: Humanstuck (all characters are human). Most of the Homestuck crew are in the Gay-Straight Alliance at Alternia High. So much hilarity. So much. I love Karkat and Sollux in this. And after reading Kanaya’s chapter I had to go back and read again because it just. Yeah.

I love things where characters are fans and Homestuck is extra cool because there are giant cultural differences between Trolls and Humans so interpretations of the shows/musicals/books/etc. can be radically different. And Karkat would be a Glee fan. Really no contest.

Recommendation: Rose never went unGrimdark. Only Sollux gets through to her. An amazing fic that has been rec’d from here to the moon and back. Once I read it I believed. A great character study of Rose, wonderful Sollux moments. And a trip inside the minds of two individuals that are very very cerebral. The tone of this fic gets me every time.

Summary: In another universe, the Imperial Fleet came to Earth without warning, in the early years of the Cold War. Just as suddenly, nuclear warfare served as the ultimate warning to stay away, and the Earth was safe. The crashed ships full of abandoned officers and slaves, not so much.
Fast forward to present day, and the Earthbound troll population has been forced to survive in a human-dominated society that doesn't take kindly to their decades-long presence. Between having to resort to archaic and undignified methods of reproduction, legally-mandated drugs to suppress their more trollish attributes, and clashes between Alternian and Earth-hatched generations, survival looks to be a difficult task, indeed.
Recommendation: Gritty or Realistic are the words I’d use to describe this fic. What would happen if trolls were second class citizens in North America today. No sunshine and Rainbows and Puppies that’s for sure. I rec this because it is well written and sometimes I am in the mood for gritty realism with trolls. Dave and Gamzee are pitch for each other at the beginning, it goes from there.
