Stats:
• 46 podfics released (a number of these were in series and two were the same fic only reading different parts)
• Total Time: 33h 20m 1s according to my calculations. That is over a full day. I’m kind of stunned.
- Longest Podfic: Searching for Sanity (as that this was my Big Bang entry I am not surprised)
- Shortest Podfic: KARKAT VANTAS'S GUIDE TO SAFE SEX WITH ALIENS (though this doesn't count the untitled fic of Awake at Night that I posted seperately)
• Fandoms:
- Please Save My Earth (1 – but it was my Big Bang so it was long)
- Avengers (7 – interestingly, 5 of these were collaberations with a bunch of friends I got to record with me – non-podficcers, and the other 2 were for #ITPE)
- Fullmetal Achemist (5 – though they were all in the same series, a series I’ve had sitting partially recorded on my computer for years, I started it not all that long after I started recording podfic, it felt triumphant to finish it)
- Dragon Age 2 (1 – for a friend’s birthday)
- Homestuck (31 – 11 of these are spred between 2 series and 2 are the same fic only klb and I switched characters and read it again.)
• It is was Homestuck that really got me back into podficcing, not that I’d really left but I was definitely in a bit of a slump and Homestuck galvanized me to create again.
• The Best Podfic I made this year: hmmmm… this is hard. There are two that I am most proud of, though for different reasons. Big Brother is a recent podfic and I created 2 cover arts and created and recorded cover music for it. So I suppose I’m not necessarily proud of the podfic but rather of the project that included the podfic. Trollish for the Easily Excited I am most proud of because I got to stretch my linguistic chops. I learned how to do an Implosive Consonant for this fic :D (I kind of wish I had done this during Amplificathon because I think I maybe could have gotten different language points…) Also, john: get the last word is very polished. I actually had to record it twice because my audacity settings were mess up the first time and the entire thing was clipped and the quality of my performance shows.
• Most Popular: How do you even judge that? Kudos: Out of the Dark, Comments: john: get the last word, Bookmarks: Cool Blue Reason, Hits: Cool Blue Reason (all stats from Ao3) Like Anatsuno (whom I got this from) I’m interested in what your favourite is.
• Most Underappreciated: Either Searching for Sanity (because it an awesome fic about gender in a small fandom that is epic in length and I worked really hard on it), or Big Brother (because it is an epic about gender and I worked really hard on it… this is beginning to sound familiar) However, Searching for Sanity is in a tiny fandom and Big Brother hasn’t been out there for as long as some of the others so who can tell in the long run.
• My Favorite: Hands down it is KARKAT VANTAS’S GUIDE TO SAFE SEX WITH ALIENS. This was the funnest to record – seriously capslocking at my computer about human and alien reproductive systems, telling the listener to “alchemize a shame stick” if they really needed something in their nook. SO FUN. Also it came out really well. Tied for second would probably be It’s probably Plain to see that I’ve got a whole lot of pain in me (how long is that title, seriously, the tricks I had to pull to get it to fit onto the cover) and john: get the last word It’s probably plain is such a heartwrenching gorgeous love story with so many feelings and one of my all time favourite fics to begin with. John: get the last word is just so fun, and funny, and came out so well.
• Most difficult to make: hmmm… this is tough because there were several podfics that had things that were difficult about them. The Implosive that I was so verbally proud of before (in Trollish for the Easily Excited) took me three days to actually be able to say and there were other sounds in TftEE that I’m not sure I ever got correctly. Searching for Sanity was difficult because it was long. Also because in the middle of recording I began to remember what happened in the future of the fic (which I hadn’t read in a while) and I was dismayed because it was saying different things than I thought. After finishing it I realized that no, I had remembered correctly the first time and I do love this fic but in the middle I was really uninspired to finish. My most difficult project is actually one I’m working on right now (so it doesn’t acutally count) because it has 34 speaking characters (at least they all have the potential to speak and I think most of them get at least a line or two). So many voices T_T
• Most “ah ha ha I can’t believe I’m doing this”? HAH. I don’t actually get like this. Hmmm NO WAIT. I recorded Five ways to get in touch with your inner mild mannered scientist with three non-podficcing friends. We were sitting around my computer. That story ends in an orgy that includes the Hulk. I had a moment. Maybe also when I recorded Cool Blue Reason also with a RL friend (she was later one of the people in the Hulk orgy). Other than that I don’t really get like that…
• Most fun to make? 100% KARKAT VANTAS’S GUIDE TO SAFE SEX WITH ALIENS. The only thing that can compare is something I recorded that the author hasn’t gotten back to me on.
• Was there one that didn’t turn out the way you wanted? Hmmm… this is an interesting question. There are a bunch that I’ve since listened to that I realize there are mistakes in that I didn’t catch before I posted them so, all of those. And my mic died at the beginning of “Five ways to get in touch with your inner mild mannered scientist” so we passed around my headset (PRO TIP: DON’T DO IT) so the sound quality is crap. And the song for Big Brother I will likely rerecord at some point. But there aren’t really any that I’m disappointed in my recording of as a whole. It is always interesting to hear how things come out, sometimes they are different than I thought but it is always “interesting” and never “wow that’s terrible”.
• Biggest learning experience: hmmm… Big Brother included learning how hard making a cover is. And editing music together but for actual podfic… john: get the last word was my first podfic with effects. You know, I think my learning process has been more gradual. I’m definitely better than I was a year ago, I make covers now and I can make podbooks. I also no longer upload to mediafire. But there wasn’t one podfic that required me to learn all the skills at once.
• What’s next? Do you have any podfic goals for next year?
- A personal goal for this year that I intend on continuing: To double the amount of Homestuck podfic on the internet on my own. I’m not sure I’ve completed this. I was unaware of where to actually find Homestuck podfic when I decided I was going to do this and have since learned that there are more than a mere 9 podfics on the internet for Homestuck. However, if not in the number of stories, I believe I have made great headway into the amount of Time of Homestuck podfic that exists.
- I really would like to do PodficBigBang again if they run another non-exchange one. I have a fic in mind that is IMMENSE. I should actually start now, there is enough of it that I could be mostly done and still hit the required word count/time stamp. I also have 2 or 3 epic Homestuck fics I want to record. Depending on if certain authors finish their fics that could increase to 4-5 epic length podfics.
- I’d also love to participate in Amplificathon (which I didn’t do this year because I was really busy) provided I’m not super busy this year.
- I’m part of a Theatripod project that is trucking right along. (SO FUN :D)
- I might miiiiiiight participate in podTogether, I have a very specific kind of project in mind and I need to find a writer whose interested.
- Have fun and podfic more?
- OH, also planning on hitting a bunch of Cons this spring and summer and seeing if I can meet with podficcers in MEAT SPACE which is something I have never done with anyone I knew only through the internet so that is new and scary.’
- Also planning on actually podficcing the fic I wrote for Yuletide this year. Maybe I’ll actually do it.
AHAHAHAHA so after I filled this out I went on to podfic and post another fic…. So the last one was posted today (possibly yesterday depending on when I post this thing)
